The Newest Addition To The Smith Family

quinn_smith_owen_smith1His name is Owen Smith. He’s the one on top of the Leslie cabinet and his big brother is Quinn, some how seems to be holding things in place to protect little brother from rocking and rolling off the cabinet.

I saw this picture and loved it. Why? My younger brother, Shelby who is the father of these two, plays piano and loves the B3 organ. We, being the rock n roll brothers we are, love music with a great B3 sound. So this thing in the picture that looks like bedroom furniture is actually the speaker that gives sound to a B3 organ and it’s called a leslie.

So when I saw the photo, I saw something that spoke to me of legacy, learning, and instilling a great sense of musical knowledge for these two precious kiddos.

Question… what kind of things are you teaching your kids? What does this world have to offer that you want them to know well? Music? Art? Culture?

Music, art & culture have become integral to raising Emma & Jacob. They are flourishing in the Reggio Amelia program at http://springhollowschool.com which emphasizes all three of these elements in their curriculum. Many people dont realize the psychological impact music & art have on a child's development. Their demeanor has improved becoming more mellow & open to the world around them. This may be something artistic families may come by naturally. I'm grateful that there are options for those of us not so musically inclined. :)

Wow Spence – Jeff and I love this! – Our boys have been raised around music thier whole lives. Charlie now plays keyboard and writes songs from time to time. Dillon plays drums and is learning electric guitar. Oddly, Dillon also craves old rock from the 70's – Clapton, AC/DC, Queen, The Stones, all of it, which is amazing. He's also an artist and can get lost in that for hours.

Charlie is my writer. Somewhere along the line he picked up a love for reading and writing from watching me try all these years. He also has a talent for comedy and a heart for the Gospel that transcends anything we could possibly take credit for.

I have no musical talent whatsoever. Having a family of musicians fills my spirit. I love it.
