Good Advice About Twitter
I’m reading through the August issue or Wired, one of my all time favorite magazines, and I come across some good advice about twitter. These are all quotes from some top bloggers who are some of the more elite on the world of twitter.
“If you want more people following you on Twitter, give your real name on your account profile. Not everyone know you by your username.” - Scott Beale
“Don’t answer,’What are you doing?’ Be funny. Be brief (duh). Leave your lunch unpublished. Ditto your late plane. Incomplete sentences.” - Jason Kottke
“Twitter is a community. It’s not all about you. Engage your peers by asking them questions. You don’t have to actually read the answers.” - Micki Krimmel
“Don’t try to impress - just be yourself. But go a little beyond your comfort zone; share something you’re hesitant about sharing.” - Evan Williams
Twitter is a form of micro-blogging that has really become popular and I love watch the conversation roll by. I can often tell what kind of mood some of my twitter friends are in or what kind of day they are having just from their twitter messages.
It’s pretty amazing to think that there are a bunch of us who come in virtual contact with each other through twitter. It’s also amazing at how fast information can spread with such a simple piece of technology. Who would have thought ten years ago I would have bought a CD because someone recommended the CD on Twitter and other people chimed in with their two cents about the CD.
I go through my days where I don’t twitter that much. But some days I tend to push it a little harder. My twitter cycle seems to be well balanced now!
The coolest thing this month on twitter though has been coming from The Tour de France. Team Garmin’s twitter is awesome. This guy is in one of the follow cars of the team and gives updates as the race rolls through France on a daily basis. I can sit and watch the action live on TV, see something happen and a couple of minutes later twitter buzzes away with an update from Jake.
Come on people...now thats cool.

Great advice. Thanks for sharing Spence.
