Since I returned home from Uganda, I’ve been trying to get back into the swing of my work out schedule. Sunday , Wednesday and Friday swim practices…running on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and somewhere in there throw in a couple of bike rides. It’s a bit overwhelming when you try to throw in the rest of your life…work, travel, friends…it’s a weird.

I wonder how it’s all going to get done during the week. I know…I don’t have kids or any of the responsibilities most families deal with, but it’s still a lot for little ole me.
I got to thinking about all of this the other day at swim practice. It’s funny to me how I learn so much about myself when I’m swimming. I was thinking about being more efficient with my time and trying to get more things done through out the week. As I was thinking about this I was also thinking about pacing my swim stroke so I don’t wear myself out so quickly. So much of what we do in practice is about pacing yourself to not burn out all of your energy…hmmmm….sounds like a good idea.
Yep…sounds like something practical I could do during the week to get me to the end of the week with all of my work done, workouts completed and travel set without feeling overwhelmed and worn out.
In swimming if you start out a long distance swim to fast then you burn yourself out. But if you pace yourself, concentrate on the task at hand and watch how you are swimming, your body will adjust and move more smoothly through the water and conserve your energy for the longer haul.
Sounds like a good plan to me…so how do I make this practical for living day to day? Thoughts?
