My Precious Me Time
Last night I was in Chicago watching this guy and and this guy rock the house. Instead renting a car and trying to make my way through traffic, I took the L train to the venue. Did what I do and got back n the train at the end of the night and came back to the airport by the hotel. I travel alone most of the time and last night while coming back on the train I kept thinking about ‘me time’. Its sounds pretty selfish honestly, but I need ‘me time’ more than ever for some reason.

I think it’s this. I notice that between my work, training, travel schedule, and friends I hang out with…I’ve noticed that I have little time for much else. I mean…how do you fit it all in? By the time Monday starts, Friday is here again and I’ve not been able to see people I want to see or even talk to them. Sure…I know what you are thinking. Some of that is just picking up the phone, but for me…the phone is constantly ringing and I can literally go from one conversation to the next for hours hitting call waiting and not hanging up the phone. At the end of it, I look at my phone and just want to throw it. What a blessing and a cursing huh?
I love that I have have a job, friends, something to train for and great places to travel, but every person needs downtime. Time to think, be alone, be still, relax and refresh. I find that in my spare time, thats what happens. ‘me time’. No wonder I don’t have a girlfriend huh…
I think that’s why Saturday’s are my favorite day of the week. I go run, have a great breakfast somewhere, take time to refresh and maybe run around town getting some things or just hanging out in a movie alone diving into a story that takes me elsewhere for 90 minutes.
My ‘me time’ is precious. It makes me better at being me and shows me where my faults are and reminds me to be real and honest with who I am.
My greatest moments of ‘me time’ are when I can be on top of the world and looking out over the great expanse of the earth and feel like the world is here for me to discover. Those times on the top of the world are not always physically on a mountain top, but in the process I go through in my head as I decompress, take a deep breath and take it all in. (by the way, if you think about it…there’s never a moment when you are not on top of the world. Whether sitting by the ocean or on top of everest. You ARE on top of the world.)
In the end, I know I need more balance and to do a better job at some of my relationships, but ultimately I need ‘me time’ to get there.
What is your ‘me time’ like? Does it refresh you? Where do you place value in your life? How do you get it all done during the week? Just a few questions to think about on this Saturday. I hope its a good one for you. I’m off to Minneapolis…

i try to take some me time at least every other day. typically i go driving or to a cafe alone. i have realized how important this is…if it’s not there, my time with others isn’t as good as it could be. i love people…but my brain needs lots of time to chill out.

Me time? What is that?
Me time? What is that?
My me time is random but I either run or read to get a little of me time. However I want to be where that guy is. That is a awesome picture! H

I so relate to this post. And, I have found that the times I don’t get my “me time” are the times when my life goes a little crazy. That does make quite the interesting dynamic when people talk about dating, though, huh?!?
Now that Kristin has gone back to work, Brody is going to be asking those questions much more often!! Those were the days!

I go crazy without “me time”! I think introverts like me need it especially!
Usually I try and get outside, to remember there’s more to life than airports, planes and buildings & to remember there’s a huge, beautiful world out there waiting to be discovered!
Thanks for this Blog – a good reminder to make outdoors “me time” a priority this week…sometimes it feels selfish, but ultimately we will love others better if we make sure our own hearts are refreshed and filled up, ready to pour out.
Cheers Spence!

Once at Costco, I asked a couple if I could borrow their cell (I’d forgot mine @ home) & they said no they leave them in the car when they grocery shop. It was their quiet time – no cells, pdas or ipods – time to unplug from tech world – no input required. It seemed very important to them. Maybe it would work for you & you wouldnt hate your phone so much.
